• A BRIEF HISTORY

Sick Seconds is a Canadian rock band, influenced by blues, punk, funk and music of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Its five band members, Barry Harris (Lead Vocals & Guitar), Anton Cook (Drums & Percussion), Steve Wood (Bass & Backup Vocals), Jesse Long (Lead Guitar & Background Vocals) and Dan Volchok (Lead Vocals, Keys & Guitar), are an eclectic group of guys brought together by friends and a shared passion for music.

Seasoned musicians and long time friends, Barry Harris and Anton Cook (former drummer with King Apparatus) started jamming out ideas with Steve late 2011. In the summer of 2012, Jesse Long joined the trio to contribute his additional guitar skills. As the chemistry developed and new songs written, singer/songwriter Dan Volchok joined the band to add yet another flavour to the group that would eventually be named Sick Seconds.

By fall of 2012, a band was born. Sick Seconds began recording & mixing their first L.P. in January 2013 at  The Orange Lounge in Toronto, Canada.

Sick Seconds debut L.P. Mixed by Daryn Barry (Avril Lavigne, Billy Talent, Sum 41) Mastered at The Lodge NYC by Emily Lazar (Foo Fighters, Garbage, David Bowie, Vampire Weekend, Tiesto, B.T. Sound City, The Shins etc.)

Sick Seconds have recently launched into the Toronto music scene performing at The Bovine Sex Club, The Rivoli & The Horseshoe Tavern May & June 2013. Like the Sick Seconds Facebook page and follow the band on Twitter for updates.

    Something From Nothing

    Written By: Harris/Bob Mitchell

    Verse 1

    Well here we go
Ya got a dream that's undeniable
    Oh ya
Your mama told you it's untouchable
    Well who cares
    She can't protect the unprotectable
    You can't stop
You're gonna reach for the unreachable

    Pre Chorus

    You're gonna rip it up
    Tear it out
    Crank it up
    Scream & Shout
    Raise the Roof
    Raise the stakes
    Shout it out

    Chorus

    Build something from nothing
    Break out and get living'
    Build something from nothin'
    Fall down as your winning

    Build that dream from nothing
Get love when you give it
    Build something from nothing
Live Life and you win it

    Verse 2

    You know
The speed you run is unsustainable
    You don't care
But don't forget your not untrippable
    Can't nail ya down
    You know you're simply unrestrainable
    So run run
You drip in passion it's unfailable

We gonna start again and build it up
We gonna start again and build it up
    When all around is negative
Reach high, run fast, let's go let's live!!

    Chain Me

    Written By: Barry Harris/Bob Mitchell

    Verse 1

You got me drinking your clear water
You got me buying what's for sale
    I'm heating up no ventilation
I know you know now what's the deal

    Pre Chorus

I call it as i see it
I see it i believe it
All my instincts say i'm not wrong

    Verse 2

Those laser blue eyes so inviting,
Some things are better left unsaid
    Late night 3d triple X-citing
I got the whole scene in my head

    Pre Chorus

I call it as i see it
I see it as i feel it
'cause those stares, are sick seconds too long

    Chorus

    Chain me,
Don't want nobody to save me
So go ahead and just chain me
Tie me down and hold tight

    Chain me
    Whatever happened to brave me
Now go ahead and chain me
to the rest of your life

    Verse 3

No time to waste this invitation,
Don't need no window for fresh air
    It's steaming up with condensation
open up, pick it up we're playin' truth or dare

    Pre Chorus

I call it as i see it
I see it i believe it
My instincts say we're too far gone

    Chorus

    Chain me,
Don't want nobody to save me
So go ahead and just chain me
Tie me down and hold tight

    Chain me
    Whatever happened to brave me
Now go ahead and chain me
to the rest of your life

    Middle 8

I call it as i see it
I see it i believe it
You got me buying what's for sale
    Can't get no ventilation
    Thanks for the invitation
Let's all get fucked up here tonight

    The Only Lonely One

    Written By: Barry Harris

    Verse 1

You're not the only one whose dreams turned to dust
You're not the only one whose gold turned to rust
You're not the only one whose marriage went bust

You're not the only lonely one

You're not the only one to lose a race
You’re not the only one to come 2nd place
You're not the only one to fall out of grace

You're not the only one lonely one

    CHORUS

Cause I live my life for me now
    Nobody’s showin’ me how,
How to live my life from day to day
Hasta la vista see ya later, Not hangin’ out with such a hater
I cast your bitter heart away

    Verse 2

You're not the only one to lose on a bet
You’re not the only one to hang by the neck
You're not the only one to lose - self - respect

You’re not the only lonely one

I'm not the only one who made a mistake
I'm not the only one who gave you a break
I'm not the only one who thinks you’re a fake
I’m not the only lonely one

    CHORUS

Cause i live my life for me now
    Nobody’s showin’ me how
How to live my life from day to day

Hasta la vista see you later
Not hangin’ out with such a hater
I cast your bitter heart away

Build A World / Hey Are You Listening

    Written By: Dan Volchok

Oh how i wish i could find my way outta here
I'm so sick and tired of trying to fit myself into someone else's shoes
    You don't know
Half the shit that goes on inside my head

I can build a world I can build a world

    Then i ask myself
Is this all worth it in the end

    Then i ask myself
Is this all worth it in the end

    Then i realize
    I don't really care

Find a girl start a family
Get a job that runs your life to the ground
We all consume and then we die
And stay silent all year around
    You don't know
Half the shit that we are able to do

You can build a world i can build a world

    Then i ask myself
Is this all worth it in the end

    Then i ask myself
Is this all worth it in the end

    Then i realize
    I don't really care

Hey are you listening, 'cause i want you to know
You've been welcomed by the world
To do whatever the fuck you want

    The Bus

    Written By: Barry Harris/Bob Mitchell

He was walking down his hometown road, he was looking for the bus
Then along it came a celebrity train, and he got on board with us
It was a magic time and everyone got to know each others name
As it travelled down that Hollywood road we got caught up in the fame
As we drove along more friends jumped on and we almost lost control
Ya It’s easy losing sanity, fame is nothing you can hold
All around the world more friends joined in as we headed for the stars
And the music we all loved so much sang of love and hope and scars
Nobody knows how far it can go
No one can say what's the price to pay
Ya the bus is there for anyone to climb aboard for free
Anytime anyhow anywhere at all but there’s always this unknown fee
Some will pay a lot some won’t pay at all some will win and some will lose
Many often take this ride too far many get off way too soon

Still nobody knows how far it can go
Still no one can say what's the price ya gotta pay

I’m so sorry that I lost my head, let my passion take control
I’m so sorry that I lost my head, let the passion take my soul
Now I’m lost in this land of make believe and nothing here is real
I just gotta get back to where I belong now I know that just ain’t here
I just gotta get back to where i belong now i know that just ain't here

    I need love
We all need love, real love

She was walking down her hometown road, she was looking for the bus
Then along it came that celebrity train and they said get on board with us
It’s a magic time and everyone gets their shot at playin' the game
As it travels down that Hollywood road It's the bus that's seekin' fame

    Nobody knows
    How far it will go
    No one can see
    You pay as you leave

    She Couldn't Help Her Self

    Written By: Barry Harris

    Verse 1

There once was a girl, an angel on earth
    A girl so extraordinary
A heart made of gold, she couldn’t be sold
    A rebel of high society
    A registered nurse,
    a well hidden curse
    a secretive self made burden
    A compassionate heart
    is what set her apart
    But something inside kept hurting

    Pre Chorus

    She hid it quite well
    So no one could tell
The anguish that grew inside her heart

    Her city of Ghosts
    Her city of pain
    Her city of Love…….

She had to help somebody, but couldn’t help herself

    Verse 2

    And so she went on
    Year after year
    forever no indication

    She just had to help
    The needy, the ill
    Was her personal vocation

    She just couldn’t stop
    She couldn’t escape
    This empathy was her calling

    But try as she might
    She couldn’t keep up
Every day she felt she was failing

    She hid it quite well
    So no one could tell
The anguish that grew inside her heart

    Her city of Ghosts
    Her city of pain
    Her own world of Love…….

She had to help somebody, but couldn’t help herself

    Life Beats Ya Up

    Written By: Barry Harris

    Life beats ya up
    Beats you down
    Kicks you in the head
    Knocks you to the ground
    Then you get up
    For another round
    As life beats you up
    Life beats you down

    When i was young
    I never knew
    What i could be
    What I could do
    Now here i am
    With the one i love
    Who picks me up
    When life beats me down

    We're drivin' down a road
    So bright and blinding
    The only thing i know
    Is what's behind me

    It goes up and down
    Ya it twists and turns
    Sometimes we fly to high
    Sometimes we crash and burn

    Now here i stand
    Bruised and broken
    Some wounds are healed
    Some still wide open

    But now here i am
    With the one i love
    Who picks me up
    when life Beats me down

All of this fussing and fighting and lying
All of cheating and stealing and dying

All of this fussing & fighting & lying & cheating and stealing the world's such a mess ABC, BBC, media's killin' me, why is it so hard to find happines?

    But its here right now
    It's all around us
    Love is everywhere
    Ya it astounds us

    'Cause now here i am
    With the ones i love
    We pick each other up,
    When life beats us down

    It's just what we do
You know that i love you
